Little Black Dress

It is a well known fact that a little black dress is an essential go-to piece that should be in every girls closet. With many lengths, necklines, and styles to choose from finding the perfect one is not difficult. Last year I came across this Audrey Hepburn-esque textured midi dress online and instantly fell in love. This dress can be dressed up or dressed down and can be worn during any season. I paired my LBD with a pair of edgy wedges, a faux leatherette envelope clutch, a small statement necklace, and my favorite dark lipstick.

Style Files: Crochet Braids

I change my hair very often, but I must say that protective styles are what works best for me. I have tried it all: weaves, wigs, braids, twists etc. As much as I love my natural hair, it has become very difficult for me to find the time to style it as much as I used to. For this reason I decided to return to my favorite protective style: crochet braids. This is the third time I have had crochet braids installed. I have previously used Model Model Glance "Water Wave" hair which I absolutely loved! I left a small portion of my hair out in the front and it blended perfectly with my twisted out 4c hair. This time around I decided to use marley braiding hair for more versatility. I used Janet Collection Noir Afro Marley Hair in the color 1B which I purchased from Ebay for about 5 dollars a bag. Unfortunately, I do not know how to cornrow my hair very well, so I had my stylist install the crochet braids for me. I have about 14 straight back cornrows and 2 and a half bags of hair were used.

Shortly after the installation of the braids, I went home and sectioned the hair. I applied Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner and then brushed each section using a paddle brush. I rolled the hair in about 2 inch sections using pink and orange perm rods as shown below. Lastly, I dipped each perm rod in hot water for about 15 seconds making sure to dry access water off with a towel. I slept in the perm rods overnight and spritzed my hair with Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Hair Sheen the following morning and below are the final results. This is by far my favorite crochet braid style! Over the next several weeks that I wear this style I plan on experimenting with different sizes of perm rods and creating different looks.
